The House of Music frequently provides opportunities for its student body to perform at one of the many events throughout Linden Hills and Southwest Minneapolis including Woofstock, The Big Cornfeed and other local events. Brad has collaborated with an increasingly talented group of teachers and musicians to expand the the music school to include summer camps, group classes, workshops and an early childhood music programs. In 2009, current owner Brad McLemore, bought the business and with steady growth has opened a second location dubbed the Lake Harriet House of Music located at 4948 Washburn Ave South. ![]() With rapid growth, the business was soon moved to it's current cozy Linden Hills location in the heart of Linden Hills just behind (and in the same building as) Heartfelt and next to Zumbro and Rose Street Cafe. The House of Music began in 2005 out of an one extra office of original owner Cindy Smedburg's husbands business above Great Harvest in Linden Hills. ![]() Southwest High School is located at the southern edge of the neighborhood on West 47th Street between Abbott and Chowen Avenues.Sharing music in Southwest Minneapolis since 2005! The Linden Hills area was featured in a scene of the 1996 film Jingle All The Way. It was the home of the second location of what became the Famous Dave's restaurant chain in 1995 and was designed like an old-fashioned BBQ shack it was closed in 2014 after the property was sold for redevelopment into a denser mixed-use project of condominiums and retail. The neighborhood's commercial corridor, centering on Upton Avenue and 43rd Street, was constructed along the Como-Harriet streetcar line in the 1920s, and is today home to many shops and dining establishments, including one of the first Great Harvest franchises, Heartfelt Craft Studio, Sebastian Joe's Ice Cream Café, Wild Rumpus Bookstore, New Gild Jewelers, the Zumbro Café, Naviya's Thai Bistro, Harriet Brasserie, Coffee & Tea Ltd, Dunn Brothers Coffee and Tilia. The main platform and carbarn of the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line are also located in the neighborhood, near West 42nd Street and Queen Avenue.įormer Minneapolis Fire Department Station 28 (now a restaurant and offices) is in the commercial area of the neighborhood, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places The first two were destroyed by fire, the third was destroyed by a wind storm, and the fourth was demolished in 1985.
